If you want the Mille Miglia experience without the intense competition and glamour, consider the Gran Premio Nuvolari in September. Many Mille Miglia participants also race in this event, which offers a less crowded, more relaxed alternative while still featuring the same legendary Italian roads. Check here if this event better suits you.
The Mille Miglia is no longer all about racing but a regularity rally meaning, precision and strategy determine the winners. To compete, participants must understand the rules, navigation system, and timing requirements outlined in the official roadbook.
You’ll never see this many infamous cars in one place again.
Every team receives a roadbook, which serves as their guide through the 1,600 km route. It includes:
Chinese-style navigation symbols will show you the way indicating turns, landmarks, and hazards.
Mille Miglia red arrow markers along the course for real-time navigation.
Time controls and stamp points, where teams must check in at exact times to avoid penalties.
Nostalgic will also provide you with a roadbook to navigate.
The Mille Miglia is decided in regularity tests, not speed trials. The goal is to complete specific sections in an exact time so every fraction of a second matters!
Tube tests: Teams must drive at a set pace, measured electronically.
Time controls: Arriving early or late results in penalties.
Stamping points: Verifying route completion at designated stations.
You too can ride through history in Brescia in an old-timer Mercedes-Benz at 1000 Miglia like Juan Manuel Fangio.
The 1000 Miglia is what legends are made of combining adrenaline, speed, skill and heroic drivers. From its exhilarating triumphs to its temporary tragic end in 1957, the Mille Miglia left an indelible mark on the world of racing. Here are just a few chapters in this story that will continue to write itself with at the wheel this summer.
One of the most iconic chapters in Mille Miglia history happened in 1955. Stirling Moss and co-driver Denis Jenkinson completed the 992-mile course in just 10 hours and 7 minutes in a Mercedes-Benz SLR—similar to the SL you'll drive with us. Averaging nearly 160 km/h on public roads, their record run became the stuff of legends.
Their success wasn’t just about speed. Jenkinson spent months documenting every turn in a detailed logbook, enabling Moss to drive with total confidence. You too can prepare with your roadbook before getting behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz SL with Nostalgic.
The race that immortalized Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson. Learn from the best and study the road before to master your ride.
Moss' success wasn't just due to the Mercedes-Benz SLR's engineering or his own driving skill. A significant factor was Jenkinson’s preparation, as he spent months inspecting the race route and documenting it in a detailed logbook. This allowed Moss to push the car to its limits, knowing the route intimately. This method of preparation would become standard for endurance races in the years to come.
You too should study the map before you drive!
The brakes were temporarily put on the legendary Mille Miglia when tragedy struck in 1957. Alfonso de Portago, driving a Ferrari 335 S lost control of his vehicle on the Strada Statale 236 Goitese. The car, traveling at speeds over 200 km/h, crashed into a telegraph pole before careening into a crowd of spectators.
Just moments before Alfonso de Portago’s tragic accident that changed the Mille Miglia forever in 1957. Be careful out there, it's not a race.
The Mille Miglia would longer run as a race after 1957 but would be re-introduced only 20 years later as a regularity rally.
We don’t tell you this story to scare you but to remind you to be cautious behind the wheel. In the present day the narrow roads are still filled with spectators and the unexpected should always be expected so please stay vigilant. With our guided rally groups we always like to keep the balance of freedom and safety to ensure maximum good times while remaining in control.
Avoid high entry fees, tight eligibility rules, and the stress of preparing a rare car. Nostalgic gives you the full Mille Miglia thrill with:
