Experience the Magic of the Mille Miglia in Umbria

Join us on an unforgettable journey through Umbria and Tuscany under the banner of the Mille Miglia. The adventure begins in Siena and takes you behind the wheel of classic Mercedes-Benz cars through the Crete Senesi into Umbria. Experience the fascination of the Mille Miglia up close as we travel alongside the teams through Umbria and Tuscany. Discover the cultural treasures of Siena, Orvieto, and Todi, and indulge in exclusive wine tastings and culinary highlights.

1. Day 1: Your Adventure Begins in Siena

Your journey starts in Siena, the "hidden" capital of Tuscany and a gem of medieval architecture. Upon your arrival, meet your fellow travelers at the hotel located at the entrance to the old town, an ideal starting point for your visit. Later in the afternoon, enjoy a delightful city tour through the narrow streets away from the tourist crowds, set against a charming evening ambiance. The Piazza Il Campo, perhaps Italy's most beautiful city square, becomes the setting for your communal dinner. Here, where the famous "Palio di Siena" takes place annually, savor the unique atmosphere and end the day with an exquisite dinner.

2. Day 2: Through the Crete Senesi to Orvieto

In the morning, get acquainted with your classic Mercedes-Benz cars and set off on a grand journey through the picturesque Crete Senesi, with cypress-lined hilltops as far as the eye can see. Passing the medieval town of Montepulciano, renowned for its Vino Nobile, you will eventually reach the impressive Orvieto. After checking in at the luxurious Altarocca Wine Resort, we head into Orvieto's old town. Enjoy a guided tour of the famous cathedral, followed by a stroll through the charming streets to dinner at a local Umbrian trattoria.

3. Day 3: The Mille Miglia Comes to Umbria

Today promises a special experience. Early in the morning, at 6:00 AM, the first Mille Miglia teams set off from Rome, heading back north. We drive south to meet the Mille Miglia teams and then join them in their convoy to beautiful Orvieto. The atmosphere is electrifying as the historic race cars thunder over the cobblestones. This checkpoint offers a perfect opportunity to get up close with the exclusive sports cars and their teams. It’s worth joining the Mille Miglia convoy up to Buonconvento, an experience not to be missed. Buonconvento is the perfect spot for a late lunch before we return. After a long and exciting day, enjoy a free evening.

4. Day 4: Todi – A Jewel of Umbria

Today holds another highlight of your journey: Todi, one of Umbria's art cities. Not as early as the previous day, you set off in your Mercedes classics through the idyllic landscape to Todi. From afar, you’ll see the impressive pilgrimage church of Santa Maria della Consolazione outside the city gates. Learn about this Umbrian settlement, founded in the 7th century BC, during a guided tour and its eventful history under the Romans, Lombards, Goths, and eventually the Papal States. After an individual lunch in Todi, return to your hotel in the late afternoon. In the evening, enjoy an exclusive wine tasting where you will sample and appreciate the renowned wines of the estate. The subsequent farewell dinner provides a chance to share impressions and stories with your fellow travelers, ending this eventful day in good company.

5. Day 5: Return Journey to San Quirico d'Orcia

After checking out, we head back north. Passing the picturesque Lake Bolsena and continuing along the historic Roman road Via Cassia, we reach San Quirico d'Orcia. This drive offers you another chance to fully enjoy the breathtaking landscape of southern Tuscany. In the afternoon, return the classic cars and be chauffeured to Florence Airport for your individual return journey. You will leave with unforgettable memories and new friendships formed during your journey through stunning landscapes and historic cities.

Tuscany is one of the most enchanting and renowned regions of Italy, captivating visitors with its unique and diverse landscapes. Vineyards blend seamlessly with olive groves, interspersed with stretches of untouched nature. This rugged beauty is punctuated by rows of slender cypress trees reaching towards the sky. Serene roads wind gracefully over gentle hills, guiding you through sleepy little villages that seem lifted straight from a 1950s Italian film.

Culture enthusiasts will find the southern part of Tuscany, with cities like Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Pienza, Montalcino, and Montepulciano, to be a treasure trove of experiences. In the weeks leading up to the world-famous Palio horse race in Siena, the city’s districts, or "contrade," can be seen practicing and preparing for the grand event. They parade through the streets in historical costumes, perfecting their drum routines for the grand entry into Piazza Il Campo.

Tuscan cuisine is celebrated for its simplicity and fresh ingredients. The dishes are hearty yet crafted with great skill and care. Bread is a fundamental part of Tuscan meals, offered in countless varieties – from simple flatbreads to Pan di Ramerino, flavored with raisins and rosemary. And, of course, a good wine is a must in this region. Tuscan wines are distinguished by their exceptional full-bodied flavors, with the ruby-red Chianti being the most famous. The "Gallo Nero," or black rooster on a golden background, adorns the labels of Chianti wines. Many estates offer wine enthusiasts the chance to taste and appreciate their top-quality wines firsthand.

Umbria, situated in the heart of Italy, is a land of gentle hills, mountains, valleys, rivers, and lakes. The largest and most famous is Lake Trasimeno. Long before Hannibal’s legendary victory, Etruscans settled near what is now Castiglione del Lago. Nature, art, and culture are always close at hand in Umbria. The nearly 180-meter-high Marmore Falls near Terni are a paradise for canoe and kayak enthusiasts, while nearby lie the ruins of Carsulae, an ancient Roman city, and the “petrified” forest of Danurobba.

Todi, a charming medieval town, captivates visitors with its well-preserved old town and majestic cathedral. Walking through its narrow streets feels like a journey back in time. Orvieto, with its cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, and the well of San Patrizio, a technical marvel with two spiral staircases of 248 steps each that descend 62 meters without ever intersecting, is another highlight.

Numerous Roman roads and pilgrimage paths crisscross the landscape at the heart of Italy: the Via Cassia, Via Flaminia, Via Amerina, and the Via Francigena. Along these roads, pilgrimage sites and castles sprang up, and small towns flourished with crafts such as pottery, glassblowing, and carpentry. The fertile soils, where olives and wine have been cultivated for centuries, contribute to a rich culinary tradition similar to Tuscany's. Norcia is famous for its black truffles, salami, and ham, aged sheep's cheese, and fresh goat cheese. In the Tiber Valley, you can find white truffles. The Umbrian cuisine is best enjoyed with a glass of Montefalco Rosso, Montefalco Sagrantino, or Torgiano Rosso. For dessert, try “Panpepato,” a type of spiced cake.

Imagine yourself gliding along the dreamlike roads of Tuscany and Umbria in an elegant Mercedes-Benz SL. Enjoy the wind in your hair, the driving experience, the scenery, the excellent cuisine, and the incomparable wines. This journey promises unforgettable impressions and culinary delights.
