Salzburg, beautiful lakes, Porsche and engineering
Day 1: Ferdinand Porsche's driving dream
In Munich you start with your VW Beetle to the east towards Chiemsee. In the tranquil Amerang rests the EFA Automobile Museum. Although you can visit the most comprehensive collection of German manufacturers' classic cars here, the museum is still an insider tip. The names Zündapp, Glas, Wanderer, NSU, Auto Union mean something for a reason, we definitely recommend a visit. The Bavarian panorama is replaced by the picturesque Salzburg lake landscape on the way to Mattsee, where you can see the private classic car collection, and visit one of the most important pioneers in the automotive industry: Ferdinand Porsche. It is not only the namesake of the sports car manufacturer from Zuffenhausen, but also an ingenious engineer and inventor of the VW Beetle. His private classic car collection includes many of his own creations, from Austro Daimler racing cars to VW Beetles, from Porsche tractors to double-decker aircraft. On the outskirts of the old town, the hotel "Cool Mama", which was newly built in 2017, awaits you with a modern Fusion cuisine, chillout rooftop bar and a room with a spectacular view over the rooftops of Salzburg.
Day 2: Hangar 7 and the Salzburg Lake District
After the breakfast buffet, take time for classic Salzburg. If Sachertorte, the Festival, and Mozart aren't your thing, simply visit the Red Bull “Hangar-7” and the Salzburg Designer Outlet instead. Visit the spectacular Hangar-7, an architectural marvel, and home of many vintage planes - the "Flying Bulls" - as well as an art museum with changing exhibitions and many exciting exhibits from a wide variety of extreme sports that are sponsored by Red Bull. However, if you can't wait to set off in the VW Beetle Cabriolet, head east to the romantic one Fuschlsee, and on to Mondsee and Wolfgangsee. For the return journey towards Munich you have two serpentine mountain roads to choose from: via Bad Reichenhall, Kössen and the "Tatzelwurm" to Schliersee, or via the notorious one Rossfeld Panoramastrasse via Berchtesgaden and Traunstein. Either one will be a true cherry on top of a great journey.
