Lake Maggiore: Art Nouveau and Palm trees

Italy’s second largest lake lures with a beautiful Riviera and a mediterranean ambience. Narrow mountain roads contrast with palm-lined shores promenades, Belle Époque villas and English gardens completement the archaic-looking villages. This high-contrast tour has a lot to offer and leaves nothing to be desired.

Lake Maggiore: Winding Mountain Roads and Glamorous Promenades

Day 1: Isola Bella

You will be welcomed at Milan Malpensa Airport and taken to your hotel right on the shores of Lake Maggiore . You will get to know your fellow travelers over an aperitif, after which we will present the Mercedes-Benz SLs to you and explain the easy-to-understand road book. The first trip is a good way to get to know your Mercedes-Benz. In the early evening, you travel in proper style with old wooden boats around the brightly lit Isola Bella . A joint dinner on the island, which is deserted by tourists, ends the day.

Day 2: Centovalli, Ascona and the Lombard shore

On the second day an unforgettable route awaits you: rugged gorges and lonely mountain valleys in the Valle Cannobina. After crossing the Swiss border into Centovalli in Ticino, you will reach Ascona. On the picturesque promenade along the banks of Ascona you have the opportunity to take a walk and have an extensive lunch. In the afternoon you drive along the western shore road and admire sophisticated lake promenades. This evening will be at your leisure at the hotel.

Day 3: Mottarone and San Giulio

On the third day you can experience the absolute rallye feeling in Mottarone Preserve: serpentines, intermediate throttle and the unmistakable sound of a classic Mercedes-Benz. You drive along impressive mountain roads up to the 1,490-metre-high Mottarone, from which you look down to Lake Maggiore and Lake d’Orta. The latter becomes your next destination, via winding mountain roads you reach the old town of Orta San Giulio, where you will have enough time for a walk through the picturesque alleys. On the way back to the hotel, you will cross two more nature preserves. A common farewell dinner takes place in a popular old town restaurant in Baveno.

Day 4: Castel Angera

In the morning, you will visit the town on the southern shore of Lake Maggiore. Castel Angera. The fortress, which was built in Roman times, is home to one of the most important noble families in Italy. Almost 150 steps lead up to the fortified tower, from where you can enjoy an incomparable view. Following the tour, you will have a last lunch together, then you will drive along the lakeshore, past the hermitage Santa Caterina del Sasso and further on to Laveno. The ferry will take you to the western shore, in the afternoon the classic cars will be returned to the hotel and the transfer to the airport in Milan.

Lake Maggiore, with its 212.5 square kilometres, lies on the border between Italy and Switzerland. Its west bank is part of the Italian region of Piemont, the eastern shore lies in the Lombardy region and the north part in the Swiss canton of Ticino.

The second largest lake in Italy, at its deepest point 372 m, extends from the Southern Alps to the edge of the Po valley. The shore of Lake Maggiore is lined with a number of well-known locations – Stresa, Verbania, Ascona and Locarno, to name a few. Dream destinations are also the Borromean Islands in the Gulf of Stresa and the Brissago islands southwest of Ascona.

Pamper yourself with culinary delicacies and enjoy Lake Maggiore at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz SL classic car. Which car suits this area and its old Belle Epoque mansions for you? Whether in Ascona, home of poets and bohemians, in Stresa or Milan you will be assured of admiring gazes.

The Botanical Gardens of the Villa Taranto, the garden terraces of the Isola Bella and many privately owned gardens, some with unique collections of plants, make Lake Maggiore a paradise for Botany fans. Of course, water sports enthusiasts also get their money's worth here; from May to October, Lake Maggiore offers bathing lake temperatures, and sailors and motorboat enthusiasts can be found on the lake all year round. Let yourself be tempted by Lucullan delicacies indulge and enjoy Lake Maggiore in a very special way, namely at the wheel of a Mercedes Benz classic car. What automobile fits better here, with the villas from the Belle Époque? Whether in Ascona with its touch of bohemia, the conference town of Stresa or in Orta San Giulio on the lake of the same name: admiring glances from the roadside are guaranteed.
