Day 1 Berchtesgaden and Königssee

The Berchtesgaden National Park is astonishingly picturesque. The route here will take you past sights such as Schliersee, Bayrischzell and Traunstein. Not only does the Berchtesgaden area offer impressive natural beauty, you will also be spoiled for choice when it comes to things to see. Should you take a trip through time at the historical salt mine or enjoy a challenging hike to Saint Bartholomew’s Monastery at the Königsee or visit the Nazi Documentation Centre and the Eagle’s Nest? The salt mine in Berchtesgaden is well worth a visit because it is home to some amazing lighting installations and visitors can explore the mine on a mine train, gliding along wooden tracks, travel on a mine boat or walk through the mine on foot. Not only is Königsee a frequent backdrop for popular music videos, but also a uniquely untouched natural spectacle.
The salt mine in Berchtesgaden is worth a visit because it offers spectacular state-of-the-art light installations and visitors can alternately explore the mine on the mine train, sliding down wooden tracks, taking a boat ride on an underground lake or on foot. The majestic Königssee is not only a famous film set, but an enchanting natural spectacle.

Day 2 “ The Steinerne Meer”

Your day trip today begins with the Rossfeldpanoramastraße. Once a famous and notorious route for top-class mountain races, the private toll road leads up to the Obersalzberg to the foot of the Ahornbüchsenkopf. At over 1,500 m, Rossfeldstraße is the highest ring road in Germany and offers spectacular views of the Dachstein Mountains, the Watzmann and Salzburg at the top far into the Salzkammergut.
Now an excursion to Austria follows. Countless promising curves lead over Hallein and Bischofshofen and to other scenic highlights: Hochkönig and the “Steinerne Meer”. The serpentines of the Hochkönigstrasse offer great driving fun and the imposing Hochkönig the perfect alpine backdrop for the VW Beetle Cabriolet tour. The Dientner Sattel is one of the most beautiful mountain roads in the region and is a real insider tip. You roll relaxed downhill to Saalfelden and get back to Bavaria via the Lofer federal road and the Walchsee at the height of Oberaudorf. The road is named after a folk mythical creature, the "Tatzelwurm", which winds its way up in tight bends from the Inn Valley to just before Bayrischzell. The best views accompany you over the Schliersee and Miesbach back to Munich.

Bavaria is a classic holiday location, for sports enthusiasts and culture lovers alike.

With its world-famous sights such as the castles of the Bavarian Fairytale King Ludwig II, the Andechs, Benediktbeuern and Ettal monasteries, the attractions in the state capital of Munich and its varied, unforgettable natural panarama, Bavaria is the most attractive holiday region in Germany, attracting more than 25 million visitors a year. Bavaria is captivating, thanks to its natural diversity and harmonious combination of mountains and lakes.

You will drive along romantic roads under a blue-and-white sky, past lush, green meadows and shady woods, along the numerous lakes, through tiny villages, along long, narrow mountain passes, up to fields full of flowers, steep gorges and snow-capped mountains. And what could be nicer on our carefully selected routes than to stop off at one of the numerous inviting country inns or beer gardens and to get to know the culinary side of Bavaria – not for nothing is it known as a place for connoisseurs. Experience the unique Bavarian beer garden culture – Bavaria’s answer to the Italian Dolce Vita. A cool, freshly tapped pint of beer in the beer garden, with some hearty Bavarian delicacies such as Hendl, Steckerlfisch or Obazda mit Breze – that’s Bavarian heaven. Nowhere else can Bavarian life be experienced so completely. Custom and tradition are still very much a way of life here.

The Ammergau region includes some of the most famous and most visited sights in Bavaria: the smallest castle of the fairytale king Ludwig II "Linderhof", the Ettal monastery and Oberammergau. The Herrgott-Schnitzer, Lüftl-Maler and of course the Passionsspiele Bavaria enjoys a perfect symbiosis between the traditional and the modern, progress and development. Moreover, Munich and its surrounding area are home to successful companies such as Allianz, BMW, Audi and Siemens, and not forgetting the record-breaking football club FC Bayern Munich. Once a year, Munich is the home of the Oktoberfest, which rather curiously takes place in September and has very much developed into the top export of Bavarian tradition over the last few years. Bavaria combines unspoilt nature and vibrant life, with its boundless diversity of rich art and culture. There really is something for everyone here. And this is exactly why Bavaria provides the perfect backdrop for our Beetle Cabrio tours.
