Wachau: Vineyards, monasteries, castles and the Danube
One of the most picturesque landscapes in Austria lies between the Danube, vineyards and mighty monasteries: the Wachau, famous for its high-quality wines. Among the sights of this trip are the ruins of Dürnstein, where King Richard the Lionheart of England was imprisoned, as well as the medieval village of Dürnstein, the Abbey of Göttweig and Melk Abbey. Due to its unique beauty, the Wachau has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a cultural landscape.

Picturesque wine villages and shady sunken roads of Wachau in a Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet
Day 1: Romanticism in the Kamp Valley
In the Design Hotel and Winery “Loisium” you get to know your fellow travellers over a light lunch. After selecting the VW Beetle Cabriolets, the roadbook takes you north through the wildly romantic Kamptal valley past Calvary. In the late afternoon you have time for the 1,200 sqm spa & wellness area of your hotel before we set out on foot through the vineyards to end the evening in the nearby Heurigenhof “Bründlmayer”.
Day 2: Göttweig Abbey & Loisium Wine World
Today is dedicated to the mighty, influential Danube pencils. First it goes along the Kamp, then along the Krems to Dürnstein an der Donau. After lunch you drive through the Dunkelstein Forest and visit the Benedictine Abbey of Göttweig, one of the most impressive baroque monasteries on the Danube. Later in the evening, back at your hotel, you will be more secular, visiting the impressive cellar of the “Loisium” winery. In the world of wine, New York star architect Holl combined modern art with the art of wine production. The more than 200 different wines and sparkling wines of Lower Austria were not only built here a temple of recognition, you can also taste and buy them all. In the restaurant “Vineyard” you will find the wines as a suitable accompaniment for the dinner together.
Day 3: Danube & Melk Abbey
Tomorrow you will start the VW Beetle Convertibles for the last time and then follow the Danube for almost 30 kilometres. Perhaps the most beautiful, but certainly the most powerful monastery of the Danube monasteries is the Melk monastery, which we experience during a guided tour. After a refreshment in the monastery garden we go downstream to Krems and back to your hotel, where the trip ends in the early afternoon.
