Mille Miglia in a Mercedes-Benz SL
Mille Miglia 2019 up close & personal aboard the Mercedes-Benz SL
1st Day: The Chianti Region
The journey begins as you drive along the cypress-clad avenues leading to stately Borgo Scopeto Relais. From here you can enjoy the magnificent view overlooking Siena before check-in. Following a brief introduction into the Mercedes-Benz history and the easy-to-follow Road Book, the fleet is all yours. Your heart will beat faster as soon as you turn the ignition key for the first time. We drive over the rolling hills of the world-renowned cultural landscape of Chianti (aka Chiantishire) and look at old castles and palaces, but also dense forests and wide fields. In the evening, we will take you to one of the most renowned wineries for a tasting followed by dinner.
2nd Day: Pit Stop of the Mille Miglia 2019
Although the exact route of Italy’s best-known vintage car rally is not yet known, one thing is for sure: today you can experience automotive history and the legendary “Mille Miglia” up close and personal. You’ll see the pre-war racing cars entering into town. We will be prepared to following part of the field ourselves closely behind. That will give you an understanding about how racing legend Sir Stirling Moss must have felt during his 1955 speed record at the Mille Miglia at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. You will appreciate locals and visitors along the roadside cheering to you while driving within the Mille Miglia cohort, living one of the most exciting moments of the entire journey.
3rd Day: Dream Roads to Pienza
Itinerary today seems right taken from a Tuscany postcard scrapbook. The longer you drive, the less traffic you will fine. At a certain point you will realize it is just you, your classic Mercedes-Benz Roadster, and a fairytale landscape. The Crete Senesi , characterized by clay, cypress alleys and wide grain fields are by now all yours. Approaching the very southern border of Tuscany you will find yourself in the middle of a renaissance town drawed by Pope Pius II as the ‘ideal city’. Our guided tour through Pienza will show you the cathedral and impressive renaissance palaces while strolling through narrow streets and along Corso Rossellino, the main boulevard. Picture-perfect maturity awaits us on the afternoon track as well. In the evening, the old town of Siena invites you to a walk and individual dinner.
4th Day: San Gimignano and Monteriggioni
On this day we drive on winding country roads and lonely mountain curves towards San Gimignano via Poggibonsi. San Gimignano is world-famous for its high number of surviving towers and its almost unchanged medieval appearance. On a city tour, we stroll through the historic old town, which was declared a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1990, and see the slender, towering towers that characterize the cityscape. This fact has given the place the nickname “Manhattan of the Middle Ages”. After an individual lunch break we start the last leg towards the Citadel of Monteriggioni. There you will say goodbye to “your” Mercedes-Benz SL, and we will escort you back to Florence airport or to the hotel.

Tuscany is one of the most picturesque regions of Italy. It impresses with its unique and diverse landscape. Vineyards mingle with olive trees and alternate with the original bareness of the countryside. This sparseness is broken up by lanes of towering cypress trees. Little-used roads wind their way up hills and run through small sleepy villages. Like a backdrop from a 1950’s Italian film.
With Nostalgic you drive on selected routes in Tuscany. Many of them were also sections of the legendary Mille Miglia race. But Tuscany does not only make the hearts of car enthusiasts beat faster. It also offers lovers of culture cities such as Siena and San Gimignano and places of interest such as the fortress at Monteriggioni. Even in the weeks before the world-famous horse race, the Palio, in Siena, you might be able to watch the teams during their rehearsals and preparations for the big race. They stroll through the city in their period costumes and practice on their drums preparing for the perfect entry to the Piazza del Campo.
Close your eyes and imagine gliding along the dream roads of Tuscany in a classic Mercedes-Benz. You enjoy the wind in your hair, the driving experience, the scenery, good food and the unique wines of Chianti.
