On this fantastic tour, the multiple bends of narrow mountain roads contrast with palm-lined shore promenades, and archaic stone dwellings with majestic Belle Epoque palaces.
Lake Maggiore: Belle Epoque & Mountain Roads
Lake Maggiore: Belle Epoque and Mountain Roads
Day 1 Stresa, Art nouveau at its best
You meet your fellow travelers and the tour staff at the hotel. Subsequently there is a comprehensive introduction to the Nostalgic classic cars and explanation of the easy to understand road book. The first drive allows you to get used to »your« Alfa Romeo. In the afternoon we take you to Isola Bella by boat. There we visit Palazzo Borromeo as well as the botanical gardens. In the evening you visit a culinary insider’s tip on Lake Maggiore.
Day 2 Ascona and the Lombard shore
Today’s stage is right out of a picture book: craggy chasms and solitary mountain valleys await you in Valle Cannobbina and Valle Vigezzo, west of Cannobio. You cross the Swiss border in Centovalli and arrive in Ascona. The town became known in the Twenties when poets and artists started to hang out here but it had always played an important role in the history of Lake Maggiore. You park your car on the famous lake promenade and learn something about Ascona during a guided tour, then continue for an hour and a half along the west shore of Lago Maggiore.
Day 3 Rallye Feeling in Mottarone Nature Preserve
Curves, throttle and the unmistakable sound of the Alfa accompany you this morning: the 18 kilometre mountain stage takes you from the 200 m above sea level Lake Maggiore up to the 1500 meter high Monte Mottarone. Lake Orta and Lake Maggiore lie beneath you, the snow-covered peaks of the South Alps glisten in the distance. At noon-time we visit the old town of Orta San Giulio, then cross two national parks on our way back to Arona on the south-western shore of Lake Maggiore.
Day 4 Popes and Saints
In the morning you will visit the southern shore of Lake Maggiore, Castel Angera. Dating back to Roman times this fortress is home to one of the most important noble families in Italy. Some 150 steps lead to the tower, from where you can enjoy an incomparable view. Following the tour, your drive continues north along the lake, passing the hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso and to Laveno. The ferry takes you to the western shore, where you will return your classic Alfa Romeo in the afternoon before making your way to the airport

Lake Maggiore, with its 212.5 square kilometres, lies on the border between Italy and Switzerland. Its west bank is part of the Italian region of Piemont, the eastern shore lies in the Lombardy region and the north part in the Swiss canton of Ticino.
The second largest lake in Italy, at its deepest point 372 m, extends from the Southern Alps to the edge of the Po valley. The shore of Lake Maggiore is lined with a number of well-known locations – Stresa, Verbania, Ascona and Locarno, to name a few. Dream destinations are also the Borromean Islands in the Gulf of Stresa and the Brissago islands southwest of Ascona.
Pamper yourself with culinary delicacies and enjoy Lake Maggiore at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo classic car. Which car suits this area and its old Belle Epoque mansions better than these Italian classic cars? Whether in Ascona, home of poets and bohemians, in Stresa or Milan you will be assured of admiring gazes.
